The 11-member panel set up by the Kano State Government to investigate the alleged sale of the Nigerian Meat and Allied Products (NIMAP) Abattoir under former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje says it has uncovered those who purchased equipment from the facility.

The committee's chairman, Barrister Muhuyi Magaji Rimin-Gado, said the panel is working to recover the equipment, which was procured from abroad at a high cost.

He said, “There are two sides to the story, the number one is who destroyed the structures, which is why you see a vast amount of land. We have located those who purchase the equipment. Now we are trying to see if we can recover the equipment,” he said.

The multi-million-naira abattoir, located at the Chalawa Industrial Area, was built by the administration of former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to provide multiple services that could generate revenue for the state and create job opportunities.

Rimin-Gado, a former chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, raised concern that “the land belonging to the abattoir had been sold, while other portions were allegedly allocated free of charge.”

He explained that once investigations are concluded, the committee will present its recommendations to the state government on the next line of action.

“As far as we are concerned, we will make recommendations appropriately and we will do it without any fear or favour,” he assured.

It would be recalled that the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), who inaugurated the committee on behalf of Governor Yusuf, had stated that the present administration is committed to safeguarding public assets and recovering critical infrastructure allegedly auctioned off illegally for selfish interests.
