The Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee has launched the Excellence in Tax Reform Reporting Award, a new initiative designed to recognise journalists and digital influencers who provide balanced, accurate, and impactful coverage of Nigeria’s ongoing tax reforms.

The award, announced Friday in Lagos, seeks to strengthen constructive public discourse, counter misinformation, and encourage journalism that explains reforms in ways citizens can trust and understand.

“The media is central to shaping narratives and building public trust. By equipping and rewarding journalists and influencers, we aim to ensure that the tax reform conversation is constructive, inclusive, and anchored in truth,” said Taiwo Oyedele, the chairman of the committee.

"This is how we build public confidence in reforms designed to secure our nation’s future."

Eligibility and Prizes

The competition is open to Nigerian journalists across print, broadcast, and online platforms, as well as digital influencers, bloggers, and podcasters.

Submissions must have been published between July 1 and December 31, 2025, in English, Pidgin, Hausa, Igbo, or Yoruba.

Entries in local languages must include English translations, while videos and podcasts should not exceed 10 minutes.

Winners will be selected based on accuracy, balance, clarity, public engagement, and creativity.

The prize structure includes a ₦10 million first prize, ₦5 million for second place, and ₦3 million for third place. The top 20 finalists will each receive ₦1 million consolation prizes, along with plaques.

Additional perks such as gadgets and training fellowships may also be awarded.

Awards Gala and Applications

Winners will be announced at a high-profile ceremony to be held either in Lagos or Abuja, with live broadcasts on major TV stations and livestreams on YouTube and X Spaces.

Applications will open via the official portal fiscalreforms.ng, by the end of the year. Updates will also be shared on social media under the hashtag #ExcellenceInTaxReporting.
