Ramzy Abu Ibrahim, Head of the Palestinian Community in Nigeria, has been arrested by operatives of the Anti-Terrorism Squad in Abuja, according to Sahara Reporters.

Family members said the Palestinian-Nigerian, who has lived in Nigeria for over 35 years, was picked up from his residence in the Federal Capital Territory on Friday, the medium reported.

“He was arrested on Friday by security operatives who identified themselves as the Anti-Terrorism Squad,” a relative told Sahara Reporters. “As we speak, the family does not know where he is or which station is holding him. The only reason we can link to his arrest is his recent advocacy against attacks on journalists and vulnerable people in Gaza.”

Ibrahim, a long-time advocate for the Palestinian cause in Nigeria, had recently intensified his public commentary on the killing of journalists in Gaza by Israeli airstrikes. He was also present and spoke at the Borderlines Debate 2024, where Nigeria Info's Ireti Bakare-Yusuf was joined by top voices from diplomacy and humanitarian fields to discuss “Yesterday, Today, and The Way Forward for Israel, Palestine, and the Middle East.”

Nigeria Info also attempted to reach Ibrahim for comments, but his phone line was unreachable.

The Palestinian Embassy in Nigeria declined to comment on the matter, and as of press time, no Nigerian security agency has released an official statement on his arrest or whereabouts.
