Bayelsa State has been thrown into mourning following the death of Deputy Governor Lawrence Oborawharievwo Ewhrudjakpo.

He passed away on Thursday, December 11, after reportedly collapsing in his office.

Senator Ewhrudjakpo, a politician and lawyer, was taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Yenagoa after the incident occurred around 1:30 pm.

Despite immediate medical attention and efforts to stabilize him in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), he was confirmed dead later that evening.

The news of his collapse caused widespread anxiety across the state capital, Yenagoa, before the People's Democratic Party officially confirmed his death on Thursday night.

Sources close to the deputy governor, who was known as a “workaholic,” suggested the collapse may have been linked to a demanding work schedule.

While the official cause of death has not been disclosed, multiple reports indicate a suspected cardiac-related medical emergency.

Born on September 5, 1965, he served as the senator representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District in the 9th National Assembly from 2019 to 2020 before assuming the office of deputy governor of Bayelsa State in February 2020.
