The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) on Tuesday contained a fire that gutted a two-storey building on Makinde Street, Ojuelegba, Surulere, with no loss of life or injuries reported.
LASEMA said its Cobra response team, alongside other emergency agencies, responded swiftly after the fire broke out and engulfed the building.
Responders included the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Federal Fire Service, Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps and the police.
Head of Public Affairs, Olawale Afolabi, said preliminary findings linked the fire to a power surge.
“The fire was successfully brought under control, and no casualties were recorded,” Afolabi said.
He added that dampening down operations were ongoing to prevent any flare-up.
LASEMA said the coordinated response prevented the spread of the fire to nearby buildings and confirmed that the situation was under control.
The agency urged residents to take electrical safety precautions, including unplugging appliances when not in use and engaging qualified electricians for wiring.
Emergency cases, it added, should be reported via 767 or 112.
