The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has disciplined 19 officers for misconduct recorded in 2025, firing five, demoting nine, and issuing stern warning letters to the rest.

The action followed recommendations from the Lagos State Civil Service Commission, LASTMA’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare Oki, said.

“Out of the 19, five were dismissed, nine got demoted in rank, while the rest were given serious warning letters,” he said.

Bakare Oki added that the authority has strengthened checks to catch officers who act against the rules.

“We have improved our surveillance unit, and officers move out daily to monitor the conduct of our men on the road,” he explained.

“The surveillance officers work in plain clothes, like mystery shoppers, to identify anyone operating against guidelines.”

Complaints from the public are also investigated, and wrongdoers are punished, he said.

“We have many examples where officers are penalised after complaints. We ensure due diligence, and if our men are found wanting, they are punished,” Bakare Oki added.

LASTMA said the move is part of efforts to improve discipline, curb claims of extortion on the roads, and restore public trust.

The authority warned that more officers could face sanctions if they break rules. Drivers and commuters have welcomed the announcement.
