Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has ordered the immediate dissolution of all ad hoc committees of the lower chamber.
The directive, contained in a statement by the Clerk of the House, Sidi Ibrahim, said the committees’ activities were terminated with effect from August 28, 2026.
Ibrahim said the dissolution followed the expiration of the deadline given to the committees to complete their assignments and submit their reports.
He noted that only two committees had requested extensions, which were granted an additional two weeks, but that period had also elapsed.
He explained that ad hoc committees are temporary bodies created for specific and time-bound assignments and should not continue beyond their approved mandate.
Chairmen of the affected committees were directed to submit all outstanding reports, working documents and other records relating to their assignments to the Clerk’s office for safekeeping.
The Clerk also ordered an immediate halt to all activities being carried out in the name of the dissolved committees.
