Four Security Personnel Killed as Troops Run Into Deadly Ambush in Borno

The Nigerian Army has confirmed the deaths of two soldiers and two members of the Civilian Joint Task Force after troops on patrol were ambushed by terrorists in Borno State.

The attack occurred along the Wajiroko–Azir–Multe axis in Damboa Local Government Area, an area that has witnessed repeated insurgent activity in recent months.

According to the Army, the team — part of the 25 Task Force Brigade — was returning from a routine patrol when gunmen opened fire from concealed positions.

Despite the initial shock of the ambush, the soldiers reportedly fought back and were able to repel the attackers, forcing them to retreat.

The incident also sparked rumours online claiming that the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General M. Uba, had been abducted during the attack.

The Army firmly debunked the reports, stating that the commander remained with his troops and returned to base safely.

In a statement, the Army described the fallen personnel as heroes who died in active service and extended condolences to their families.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, also commended the troops’ response under fire, praising their resilience despite the loss.
