‘I Beg To Differ’ Season 9: Round of 16 Ends, Quarterfinals Start Monday

The Round of 16 of the "I Beg To Differ" secondary schools debate tournament, Season 9, delivered two more tense matchups on Thursday, with Kings and Queenies Zenith School and Straitgate High School advancing to the quarterfinals.

On the first contest of the day on the to“Government Should Focus More on Rewards for Recyclers Than Penalties for Non-Recyclers,” Kings and Queenies Zenith School defeated CMS Grammar School with a total score of 96.5 to 92.5. CMS opened strongly, but Kings and Queenies recovered in the later rounds and sealed the win through a unanimous judges’ decision.

The second debate, “Nigeria Needs Referendum, Not Constitution Amendment,” featured a close contest between Danbath School and Straitgate High School. Danbath led early, but Straitgate gained control in the middle round and held on through the final presentations. Straitgate won the match with a total score of 95 to 88.5.

Both winning schools move on to the quarterfinals as Season 9 continues with more matchups on Monday.
