‘My Father’s Shadow,’ Linda Ejiofor Shine at AMVCA 2026

The 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) held in Lagos on Saturday night, bringing together actors, filmmakers, producers and digital creators from across the continent to celebrate excellence in African film and television.

“My Father’s Shadow” emerged as one of the biggest winners of the night, clinching major categories including Best Movie, Best Director, and Best Writing (Movie).

Directed by Akinola Davies Jr., the film received widespread acclaim for its storytelling and technical execution, helping it secure multiple awards during the 12th edition of the continental film awards.

The production also won Best Sound/Sound Design for the work of Pius Fatoke and CJ Mirra.

Actress Linda Ejiofor emerged as one of the night’s standout stars after securing two acting awards.

She won Best Actress for her role in “The Serpent’s Gift” and also claimed Best Supporting Actress for “The Herd,” making her one of the few performers to record a double victory at the awards.

In the male acting categories, Uzor Arukwe won Best Lead Actor for his performance in “Colours of Fire,” while Bucci Franklin earned Best Supporting Actor for his role in “To Kill A Monkey.”

“Colours of Fire” also dominated several technical categories, winning Best Costume Design and Best Art Direction.

Valerie Okeke received recognition for costume design, while Ajamolaya Bunmi won the art direction prize for the film.

Other notable winners included “Lisabi: A Legend Is Born,” which won Best Indigenous Language Film (West Africa).

Cameroon’s “Mabanda” secured the award for Best Indigenous Language Film (Central Africa), and Sudanese production “Artal Alhanin - Our Memories” won in the North African category.

The digital and television categories also produced notable winners.

“Leave To Live” won Best Digital Content Creator, while “Nigerian Idol (Season 10)” was named Best Unscripted M-Net Original.

“The Low Priest” secured the award for Best Scripted M-Net Original.

The ceremony also honoured industry veterans and emerging talents.

This year’s AMVCA featured 32 award categories celebrating achievements in film, television, and digital content across Africa.

Organisers said the awards continue to recognise excellence in storytelling and filmmaking on the continent

Ahead of the event, organisers had announced that films such as “Gingerrr” and “The Herd” led the nominations with nine nods each, setting up one of the most competitive editions of the awards in recent years.
