Shettima, Akpabio Expected in Enugu as Governor Mbah Set to Join APC

Enugu State is bracing for a major political shift as Governor Peter Mbah and key aides prepare to formally join the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday.

Top APC figures, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, are expected in the state to welcome the governor.

The party’s National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, other members of the National Working Committee, governors, ministers, and lawmakers will also be in attendance.

Mbah’s defection, confirmed by his Senior Special Assistant on External Relations, Uche Anichukwu, has drawn wide support from political and traditional leaders across the state.

PDP Crisis Blamed

Former PDP state chairman, Augustine Nnamani, cited internal crises and marginalisation of the South East in the party as reasons for the defection.

He accused the PDP of ignoring regional concerns, particularly its failure to confirm Udeh-Okoye as its National Secretary.

“The PDP chose a few people in Abuja over the South East,” Nnamani said.

“Mbah’s exit follows the communique that called for members to leave if the party’s decisions weren’t reversed.”
