Six Dead, 13 Injured as Bus Crashes After Kogi Disabilities Day Event

Six people have been confirmed dead and 13 others injured after a bus conveying participants from the 2025 International Day of Persons with Disabilities event crashed along the Lokoja–Okene road on Wednesday, the Kogi State Government has announced.

The passengers were returning from the state-organised programme held at the Government House in Lokoja when the tragic accident occurred. Officials say the injured victims are currently receiving treatment in various hospitals across the state.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, the government described the incident as a “profound tragedy” and urged Nigerians to keep the victims in their prayers.

“This tragedy has brought profound sorrow to the Government and people of Kogi State.

We mourn deeply with the families of the deceased and extend our heartfelt condolences to them during this painful and devastating moment,” Fanwo said.

He added that Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has directed the state to cover the full medical expenses of all survivors until they fully recover.

“His Excellency… has directed that the State Government take full responsibility for the medical care of all injured persons,” the statement noted.

Government teams have been deployed to hospitals to support the victims and their families, while officials say further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
