South African singer Tyla has won the Best African Music Performance award at the 68th Grammy Awards, held Sunday night in Los Angeles, United States.

Tyla clinched the prize with her hit song “Push 2 Start,” beating Nigerian stars Burna Boy, Davido and Ayra Starr, alongside Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin.

“This win means so much to me and to African music,” Tyla said after receiving the award.

It is her second victory in the category, following her 2024 win with “Water.”

Introduced to spotlight African sounds globally, the category reflects the continent’s rising influence.

The ceremony also honoured Nigerian music icon Fela Anikulapo Kuti with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
