The Nigeria Police Force's Zone 2 Command and the Nigerian Navy's Western Naval Command have pledged deeper cooperation on coastal and maritime security following a courtesy visit Wednesday at the Zonal Headquarters in Onikan, Lagos.
Assistant Inspector General of Police Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, who heads Zone 2, received the Flag Officer Commanding of the Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral AA Mustapha, along with a delegation of senior naval officers on July 8.
The visit was intended to strengthen operational collaboration between the two agencies, particularly around coastal and maritime security in Lagos and Ogun states, according to a statement from Zone 2's public relations office.
Mustapha stressed the maritime sector's importance to Nigeria's economic growth and called for sustained cooperation on intelligence sharing and joint operations.
"He emphasized the need for sustained collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Navy, especially in intelligence sharing, maritime security and joint operational engagements," the statement said, describing his remarks.
Jimoh, responding, praised the Navy's professionalism, calling it the best in Africa, and pledged Zone 2's continued partnership.
"AIG Jimoh noted that the Zonal headquarters has continued to enjoy a productive working relationship with the Western Naval Command and the Nigerian Navy over the years," the statement said.
The two agencies used the meeting to discuss intelligence sharing, operational coordination and other security matters, with Zone 2 pledging continued commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Lagos and Ogun states, per the statement from DSP Afolayan Gbenga, the Zone 2 public relations officer.
