Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is unhappy with the direction Nigeria’s election result transmission is taking.
Atiku says the current plan, which combines electronic and manual transmission, is a recipe for confusion and possible chaos.
He argues that Nigerians were expecting a clear system that allows real time electronic transmission from polling units to higher levels. But according to him, what has been adopted falls short.
Atiku says the better option is a single tier system that is fully electronic and real time, because it would be more transparent and easier to trust.
He is also calling on opposition parties to unite and push for reforms, insisting the matter should not be allowed to end where it is today.
On 2027, Atiku dismissed claims that he is already positioning himself for another presidential run. He said the issue of contesting does not even arise.
Atiku also said he remains a member of the African Democratic Congress, and that the party is currently focused on building structures from the ward level up to the national level.
He added that the ADC constitution does not recognise zoning, insisting that zoning is only clearly stated in the PDP constitution.
