The Federal High Court in Abuja has affirmed the removal of Julius Abure as National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP) and ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise the Senator Nenadi Usman-led National Caretaker Committee as the party’s lawful leadership.
Justice Peter Lifu delivered the ruling in a related suit, a development confirmed on Wednesday by human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, who said he was present in court.
According to Effiong, the court held that Abure’s tenure had expired in line with an earlier Supreme Court judgment and upheld the Nenadi Usman-led committee as the only valid leadership of the party.
“The court directed INEC to immediately recognise Senator Nenadi Usman and the caretaker committee as the authentic leadership of the Labour Party,” Effiong said.

The decision follows a prolonged leadership crisis within the Labour Party that intensified after the 2023 general elections, leading to factional disputes and multiple court cases.
INEC is yet to react officially to the ruling.
