FCTA Staff Resume Work After Court Orders Strike Suspension

Staff of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) have returned to work following a National Industrial Court injunction ordering the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC) to suspend its strike.

The court barred JUAC from continuing the industrial action pending a suit filed by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and the FCTA, noting that the right to strike is not absolute once a dispute is before the judiciary.

Wike urged staff to resume duties, promising to address legitimate demands while asking for patience. Some offices, however, remained partially empty on the first day, with security personnel maintaining order.

JUAC President Rifkatu Lorter confirmed the union’s compliance, calling the situation a “win-win” and saying they will ensure pension remittances from June to December are processed.

The FCTA administration reiterated its willingness to negotiate while stressing it will not yield to intimidation.
