The Lagos State Government has announced major traffic diversions across key parts of the metropolis on Sunday, Jan. 11, 2026, to accommodate the “Eko 170” cycling race.
The event, which is expected to attract both professional and amateur cyclists from across Nigeria, will require the temporary restriction of several major roads to ensure the safety of participants and spectators.
In a statement released by the state Ministry of Transportation, the government said the diversions will take effect from 6 a.m. to 12 noon.
The race will run through prominent coastal and commercial corridors, with Ahmadu Bello Way in Victoria Island serving as both the starting and finishing point.
Portions of the Third Mainland Bridge will be restricted during the morning hours, while the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge will be fully closed for a designated period.
Traffic along Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue will be redirected into alternative lanes, while Bourdillon and Alexander roads in Ikoyi will experience localized diversions supervised by traffic officials.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), said officers will be deployed across the affected areas to ease vehicular movement and reduce congestion.
Motorists have been advised to plan their trips ahead of time or avoid the affected routes during the six-hour window.
Commuters traveling from Victoria Island to the Mainland are encouraged to use Eko Bridge via Awolowo Road, while those moving from Lekki toward Ikoyi are advised to access the Lekki-Epe Expressway and connect through Falomo Bridge.
The state government assured residents that all affected roads will be reopened immediately after the race concludes and clearance operations are completed by noon.
