Lagos KAI Corps Marshal Vows Stronger Enforcement of Environmental Laws

The Corps Marshal of the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps, Major Olaniyi Cole (retd.), has pledged to intensify efforts to ensure greater voluntary compliance with environmental laws across the state.

Cole made the pledge on Wednesday while marking the second anniversary of his appointment by Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu in January 2024.

He said the agency has continued to monitor, advocate and enforce sanitation regulations to reduce environmental infractions and support the state’s THEMES Plus development agenda.

Cole highlighted recent clearance operations in areas including the Ebute Meta Yaba railway corridor, Dolphin Underbridge, Cele Underbridge and parts of Idunmota, Ebute Ero and Elegbata.

He commended commanders across the state’s 21 divisions for their professionalism in identifying infractions around markets, residential areas and commercial centres, while urging residents to comply voluntarily.

The corps marshal said the agency has made progress in tackling street trading, jaywalking, open defecation, indiscriminate refuse dumping and other environmental offences, with offenders arrested and prosecuted daily.

He also praised ongoing stakeholder engagement meetings and noted that the growing use of pedestrian bridges reflects increased public awareness of safety and environmental responsibility.
