Lagos Task Force Impounds 309 Motorcycles in Enforcement Sweep Along Badagry Expressway

The Lagos State Task Force has impounded 309 commercial motorcycles during a coordinated enforcement operation along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway aimed at improving traffic flow, restoring order, and enhancing security across the corridor.

The exercise, carried out in collaboration with the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources and supported by the Lagos State Police Command, also targeted illegal structures, street trading, and other environmental violations around Alaba Rago International Market and adjoining communities.

According to the agency’s spokesperson, Abdulraheem Gbadeyan, the operation aligns with the Lagos State Government’s THEMES Plus Agenda and complements ongoing security efforts to tackle crimes such as kidnapping and banditry.

The enforcement covered several locations, including Orile-Iganmu Bus Stop, Suuru-Alaba Bus Stop, Mile 2 Underbridge, Mazamaza Bus Stop, Festac First Gate, Iyana-Ira, Abule-Ado, Alakija Bus Stop, Iyana-Iba, Alaba Rago, Old Ojo Road, and Okoko Bus Stop.

Gbadeyan said the operation also led to the removal of illegal kiosks, makeshift stalls, shanties, unauthorised plank structures, abandoned household items, domestic animals obstructing public spaces, and indiscriminately displayed building materials, all of which had contributed to traffic obstruction and environmental degradation.

He noted that the impounded motorcycles would be processed for forfeiture through the courts in line with the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018, adding that similar enforcement operations would continue across the state until full compliance with existing laws is achieved.

Reacting to the exercise, Chairman of the Lagos State Task Force, Adetayo Akerele, described the level of lawlessness and indiscriminate development along the corridor as alarming, blaming illegal ticketing, street trading, and commercial motorcycles operating on restricted routes for worsening traffic congestion and encouraging criminal activities.

He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to sustained enforcement, warning that authorities would continue to restore order and ensure a safer, cleaner, and more organised Lagos.
