The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) says it has carried out fresh air strikes against terrorist and armed bandit strongholds in the North-West as part of ongoing military operations to improve security in the region.
In a statement on Saturday, the NAF said the operations, conducted on June 18 and 19 under the Air Component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA Sector 1, targeted identified terrorist enclaves while also expanding intelligence, surveillance and armed reconnaissance missions in support of ground troops.
According to the Air Force, one intelligence-led operation destroyed a confirmed terrorist stronghold, disrupting the activities of criminal elements and weakening their operational capability.
The NAF added that another mission around Kidandan led to the neutralisation of terrorists after their movement was positively identified.
Follow-up reconnaissance flights over Fatika and Sabuwa reportedly found no further terrorist activity, while aerial surveillance continued to support ongoing military operations.
The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, said effective air power achieves greater results when closely coordinated with ground operations.
The Air Force reiterated its commitment to sustaining intelligence-driven air operations alongside ground forces until terrorist and bandit networks are dismantled across the North-West.
