Victor Osimhen is expected to return to action for Galatasaray after the first international break of the 2026/27 season as he continues his recovery from a muscle injury, according to Turkish media reports.
The Nigeria striker is expected to be available for Galatasaray’s Turkish Süper Lig meeting with Kasımpaşa on October 9.
Osimhen sustained the injury during Galatasaray’s match against Başakşehir on September 4 and has since missed games against Sporting Lisbon, Kocaelispor and Trabzonspor.
The former African Footballer of the Year was initially included in Nigeria’s squad for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau, but later withdrew from the team.
A statement from Super Eagles media officer Promise Efoghe said Osimhen’s recovery from the muscle strain had been slower than expected.
According to Efoghe, Osimhen was initially included in the squad because Galatasaray and the Super Eagles technical team had hoped he would recover in time for the club’s game against Trabzonspor and be available for the international window.
Before the injury, Osimhen had made a strong start to the new campaign, scoring six goals and providing two assists in his first four appearances for Galatasaray.
His absence from the Super Eagles has led to the return of Coventry City striker Taiwo Awoniyi, who was recalled to the squad for the upcoming qualifiers.
Tolu Arokodare, Akor Adams and Rafiu Durosinmi are also among the forwards available to Nigeria for the matches.
