Retiring Troops Must Uphold Integrity, NAFRC Commandant Urges

The Commandant of the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre (NAFRC), Oshodi, Lagos, Air Vice Marshal Nnaemeka Ignatius Ilo, has urged retiring military personnel to uphold integrity, discipline and hard work as they transition from military service to civilian life.

Ilo gave the advice at a dinner organized in honor of participants of Course 1/2026 ahead of their passing-out ceremony at the resettlement center.

Addressing the graduating personnel, the NAFRC commandant said integrity would remain the most important asset for former service members seeking to build successful careers and businesses after retirement.

“I urge you to remain disciplined, focused and law-abiding. Continue to uphold the core military values of integrity, integrity, integrity,” Ilo said.

“I repeat those words three times because that is what will differentiate someone dealing with you while you are out there.”

The senior officer said loyalty, patriotism and hard work must continue to guide the retirees as they begin a new phase of life outside the armed forces.

“Loyalty, patriotism and hard work remain some of the pillars on which you must rest your hopes,” he said.

“Please make productive use of the vocational and entrepreneurial skills acquired during your training here.”

Ilo noted that NAFRC had continued to fulfill its mandate of equipping retiring military personnel with vocational, entrepreneurial and managerial skills needed for successful reintegration into civilian society.

According to him, the training programme is designed to prepare retired personnel to confront the realities and challenges of life after active service while creating opportunities for self-reliance and economic productivity.

The commandant also praised the dedication and sacrifices of the graduating participants during their years of service to the nation, describing the occasion as a celebration of their resilience, discipline and commitment.

He paid tribute to the spouses and families of the retiring personnel, acknowledging their support and sacrifices throughout the participants’ military careers.

“Military service comes with enormous demands and sacrifices, not only for the personnel but also their families, who continually provide encouragement and emotional strength,” he said.

“The Nigerian Armed Forces will not forget this, and we deeply appreciate your service to the nation.”

Ilo further expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu, the military high command and civilian partners for their continued support toward the welfare, training and resettlement of military personnel and veterans.

He congratulated the graduating participants on the successful completion of their training and encouraged them to apply the knowledge and skills acquired at NAFRC to build productive and honorable lives after retirement.
