Taraba Orders Immediate Deboarding of Students Over Rising Insecurity

Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas has directed all public and private secondary schools in the state to immediately deboard their students as security concerns grow across the country.

The order was announced on Friday in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Augustina Godwin, who said the measure was taken to prevent students from becoming targets.

“In light of the current circumstances, Governor Kefas has issued a directive requiring all secondary schools, both public and private, to function exclusively as day schools,” she said.

Godwin explained that the escalating security threats, including recent student abductions in Kebbi and Niger states, prompted the urgent move. She said principals and school proprietors have been instructed to remove all boarding arrangements without delay.

She described the directive as a precautionary step to protect children. “This decision is aimed at safeguarding students’ lives and preventing any security breaches linked to the growing unrest,” she added.

The commissioner assured parents that the government is working closely with security agencies and is committed to restoring stability across the state’s schools.

The decision follows Friday’s abduction of several students from St. Mary’s School in Papiri, Niger State, and a similar incident days earlier in Maga, Kebbi State, where 25 students were kidnapped.

The Federal Government has also ordered the immediate closure of 41 Federal Unity Colleges in response to the rising wave of student kidnappings.
