UN Slams US Military Action in Venezuela

The United Nations has condemned the recent United States military operation in Venezuela, calling it a violation of international law.

The operation reportedly led to the capture of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife.

UN Human Rights Office spokeswoman Ravina Shamdasani said countries must not use force against the territorial integrity or political independence of another state.

She said the action goes against the principles of the UN Charter.

Shamdasani also rejected claims that the operation was justified by alleged human rights abuses, warning that accountability cannot be achieved through unilateral military intervention.

The operation reportedly involved air strikes on Caracas and a strong naval presence.

It has drawn widespread international criticism and raised fears of further instability in the region.
