The Kwankwasiyya movement has confirmed plans to leave the African Democratic Congress (ADC), even as its leader, Rabiu Kwankwaso, earlier said no final decision had been taken.

According to a report by the Daily Post, Kwankwaso told supporters that “we agreed to leave the ADC,” pointing to internal disagreements and ongoing consultations ahead of the 2027 elections.

The report said he also directed loyalists to prepare for the next political move.

The development suggests a shift in position after earlier comments by Kwankwaso, reported by Nigeria Info FM, denying any immediate defection.

In that report, he said “the decision is still pending,” stressing that talks were ongoing and warning against speculation about his next step.

The mixed messages have created uncertainty within the ADC and among members of the Kwankwasiyya movement, a strong political base largely in northern Nigeria.

This also comes as Peter Obi announced his own exit from the party.

The 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate and the leader of the Obidient Movement is widely acknowledged as being the driving force behind the Kwankwasiyya Movement's alignment with the ADC.

Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State and a key opposition figure, has remained influential in national politics.

Any confirmed exit from the ADC could reshape alliances and affect the balance of power among opposition parties.

For now, it remains unclear when a final decision will be announced, as both statements point to ongoing consultations within the movement.

The ADC has yet to issue an official response to the latest development.
