The federal government says the recent flooding in the country is responsible for the delay in the opening of the Second Niger Bridge.

The Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola stated this Wednesday while presenting the scorecard of the ministry under him.

He said the only factor delaying the commissioning of the road is the construction of a four-kilometre link road on the bridge which the recent surge of flooding has impeded.

On Tuesday, President Muhammadu Buhari’s Special Assistant on Digital and New Media, Tolu Ogunlesi tweeted a picture of the bridge.

At his presentation on Wednesday, Fashola said 12 roads covering about 896 kilometres have been completed and inaugurated.

He also said the government was working on 83 road rehabilitation projects in federal tertiary institutions.

The briefing is the first in a series that will be organised by the government to show the achievements of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, according to the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed.
