The Lagos State government has ordered the temporary closure of Chrisland School on Opebi Road following the death of a 12-year-old student of the school.

The State Commissioner for Education, Folasade Adefisayo, said on Sunday that the school will remain closedpending the outcome of a full investigation into the death.

Whitney Adeniran passed away on Thursday 9 February during the school’s inter-house sports competition at Agege Stadium.

There is a controversy over the cause of death.

The school and the doctor that attended to her said she slumped and died of cardiac arrest, but her father believes the 12-year-old was electrocuted.

The Commissioner for Education has spoken with the father and pleaded for calm while the investigation takes place.
