The United Kingdom has named Peter Vowles as its new British High Commissioner to Nigeria.
He succeeds Dr Richard Montgomery CMG and will take up the post in September.
Vowles brings nearly three decades of diplomatic and development experience to the role, much of it focused on Africa.
He has served as Britain's Ambassador to Zimbabwe since 2023, and before that held the same position in Myanmar between 2021 and 2022.
His earlier career included a stint as DFID Country Director in Kenya and Deputy DFID Country Director in the Democratic Republic of Congo, alongside postings in India, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh.
He began his career with international development organisations, including Raleigh International and Students Partnership Worldwide, working in Zimbabwe in the 1990s, before joining the UK's Department for International Development in 2006.
His appointment comes as the UK continues to position Nigeria as a key strategic partner in West Africa, spanning trade, security, and development cooperation.
