The United States Mission in Nigeria has issued a health advisory to its citizens in the country following the reported case of Bundibugyo virus disease, a type of Ebola, in Abuja.
In a statement on its official X account, the mission said Nigerian health officials were tracing contacts after the infected individual reportedly travelled by air from Uganda.
The advisory urged Americans who may have been exposed to the virus to seek medical guidance if they develop symptoms consistent with Ebola.
It also advised travellers to monitor their health for 21 days after visiting areas experiencing an outbreak.
The mission warned that malaria symptoms could resemble those of Ebola and urged people to continue taking malaria prevention medication as prescribed by their doctors.
It also advised American travellers to check their travel insurance for medical evacuation options should they fall ill while abroad.
