14-year-old Olaloye Toluwalase from Covet The Redeemer College is through to the knockout stage of the ‘I Beg To Differ’ debate tournament after defeating 14-year-old Qoowiyyah Wuraola Salam of At-Tanzeel Schools.

The intense debate between the two contestants was centered on the topic, "Consensus Candidacy Is a Democratic Way for Parties to Choose."

Toluwalase, who spoke in support of consensus candidacy, argued that it will increase cooperation between party members.

He insisted that the consensus candidacy will "cut down the amount of funds spent on party primaries."

In her argument, Salam said consensus candidacy kills the principles of democracy.

She added that most consensus candidates are chosen by "political godfathers."

Toluwalase emerged as the winner of the playoff debate, thus progressing to the knockout stage of the tournament.
