As schools prepare to reopen for a new academic session, parents across Port Harcourt are counting the cost of getting their children ready for school, with many expressing concerns over the financial demands of education amid the country’s economic challenges.

The situation has also raised concerns over the possibility of some children staying at home when schools reopen. Parents who are unable to settle outstanding fees said their children might have to remain at home until they are able to make the necessary payments. Despite these difficulties, other parents remain determined to keep their children in school, insisting that the state of the economy should not stand in the way of their education. “Whether the economy is bad or good, we must send our children to school,” one parent said.
With the new term approaching, parents are encouraging one another to remain resilient and work harder to meet their children’s educational needs. For many families, the rising cost of education has added to their financial burden, but they remain hopeful that, with greater effort and sacrifice, their children will continue to receive the education they need.
