The Nigeria Police Force in Lagos has arrested six suspected members of a “one chance” robbery gang accused of targeting commuters in the Ago Palace Way area of Okota.

Police said the suspects were arrested during a stop-and-search operation carried out by officers of the Lagos State Police Command.

According to police spokesperson SP Abimbola Adebisi, the suspects were travelling in a tricycle with registration number AAA 720 QL when officers stopped them.

Police said the suspects allegedly abandoned the tricycle and tried to escape after noticing security operatives nearby.

Officers later recovered the tricycle and a fake gun believed to have been used by the gang during robbery operations, according to police authorities.

Investigators said the group specialised in “one chance” attacks, a form of robbery where criminals pose as commercial transport operators or passengers before robbing victims inside vehicles.

The police said the suspects were allegedly involved in robbing unsuspecting commuters along Ago Palace Way and nearby parts of Lagos.

“The suspects were apprehended following a stop-and-search operation carried out by police operatives along Ago Palace Way,” the police statement said.

Lagos Commissioner of Police Tijani Fatai said the command would continue “proactive policing strategies aimed at combating crime and ensuring the safety of residents across the state.”

Police added that investigations are ongoing and the suspects will be charged in court after the investigation is completed.
