The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced additional train trips on the Lagos-Ibadan corridor ahead of the Sallah celebration to ease expected passenger traffic during the holiday period.

In a statement issued by the corporation’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, the NRC said the temporary adjustment would take effect on Tuesday, 26th of May 2026 to help Nigerians travelling to celebrate with family and friends.

“The temporary adjustment is aimed at accommodating the expected increase in passenger movement as many Nigerians travel to celebrate the festive season with their families and loved ones,” the statement said.

Under the arrangement, the Lagos-Ibadan Train Service will run six trips instead of the usual four on Tuesdays.

Trains from Lagos will depart at 7:45 a.m., 1:40 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., while trains from Ibadan will leave at 8:00 a.m., 10:50 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

The NRC stressed that the increase is temporary and only for the Sallah travel period.

“Immediately after the celebration, the normal Tuesday timetable of four trips will resume,” the corporation said.

The agency also said its recently introduced Thursday six-trip operations would be adjusted next week, with only four trips running on Thursday, 28th of May, before full service resumes the following week.

Meanwhile, the Osun State Government will operate its annual free Sallah train service for indigenes travelling from Lagos to Osogbo for the celebration.

According to the NRC, the special train will depart from Iddo Station in Lagos on 26th of May, while the return journey from Osogbo is scheduled for 28th of May.
