Team Nigeria has won its fourth consecutive gold medal in the women’s 4x100m relay at the 2026 African Senior Athletics Championships in Accra, Ghana.

The Nigerian quartet of Chigozie Rosemary, Jennifer Chukwuka Obi, Rosemary Chukwuma and Miracle Ezechukwu finished first in the final on Friday with a time of 42.94 seconds.

Liberia claimed silver in 43.05 seconds, while hosts Ghana settled for bronze in 44.85 seconds.

The victory extended Nigeria’s unbeaten run in the event since 2016 and handed the country a fourth straight continental title in the women’s relay race.

Rosemary Chukwuma, who had earlier won silver in the women’s 100m final earlier in the week, ran the third leg for Nigeria before handing over to 17-year-old Miracle Ezechukwu, who powered the team to victory.

According to reports, Nigeria’s winning time of 42.94 seconds also set a new championship record and made the team the first in the history of the event to run below 43 seconds.

The women’s relay gold added to Nigeria’s growing medal haul at the championships, where world record holder Tobi Amusan earlier won gold in the women’s 100m hurdles.

After her victory earlier in the competition, Amusan said she was “still hungry for more” success on the track.

Nigeria also picked up silver in the men’s 4x100m relay after Côte d’Ivoire overtook the Nigerian team in the closing stages of the race.

Ghana finished third to win bronze.

The African Senior Athletics Championships are taking place at the University of Ghana Stadium in Accra and will end on Sunday, 17th May 2026.
