At least 22 people have been confirmed dead following a tragic accident involving members of the Kano State delegation returning from the National Sports Festival held in Ogun State.
According to reports, the vehicle carrying 35 passengers, including athletes, journalists, medical staff, and administrators plunged off the Dakatsalle Bridge in Kura Local Government Area of Kano State on their journey home.
The victims were returning from the games in Ogun when the crash occurred. Among the dead are several athletes and officials who had participated in the event. The driver of the vehicle was also confirmed dead.
Emergency responders transported the injured to Kura General Hospital, where they are receiving medical attention. Authorities say search and recovery effort is ongoing, and the number of casualties may rise.
The Kano State team had earlier been celebrated for securing 29 medals at the festival. The tragic incident has cast a shadow over what had been a moment of pride for the state.
