Nigeria has placed 46 people linked to its confirmed Ebola case on a 21-day no-fly list as authorities intensify efforts to prevent the virus from spreading.

Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo said the list includes 44 people who had contact with the infected diplomat at a hospital in Abuja and two domestic staff.

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority has been directed to notify local and international airlines.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed the Bundibugyo strain after three rounds of molecular tests.

Meanwhile, the patient, a woman who arrived from Uganda, has reportedly developed multiple organ failure and is receiving treatment in isolation in Abuja.

The Senate has called for mandatory health screening at international airports, seaports and designated land borders.

The House of Representatives has also urged the release of funds to strengthen disease surveillance and emergency response.

Several states have stepped up surveillance and prepared isolation facilities. Ogun State is monitoring 111 people of interest, while Anambra, Yobe, Ekiti, Enugu and Kano have also strengthened their response measures.

The United Nations has expressed confidence in Nigeria’s ability to contain the case and pledged support.

Health authorities are continuing contact tracing and have urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and rely on official information.
