Accord Faction Raises Legal Concerns Over Adeleke’s Party Ties

A faction of the Accord Party led by Prof. Chris Imumolen has warned that Osun State Gov. Ademola Adeleke could face political and legal implications from the party’s unresolved leadership crisis.

Imumolen made the position known in a statement titled, “Two Reasons Gov. Adeleke is Endorsing President Bola Tinubu,” issued Sunday in Abuja.

He said Adeleke’s endorsement of President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections could be a strategic move aimed at avoiding political confrontation amid the leadership dispute within Accord.

According to Imumolen, the dispute between his faction and the faction led by Maxwell Mgbudem remains unresolved.

He said while the Mgbudem-led faction supports Adeleke, his group maintains that it is the legitimate and recognized executive structure of the party.

Imumolen argued that a court victory for his faction could have implications for the political platform under which Adeleke contested the election.

He, however, stressed that such a judgment would not automatically remove the governor from office, saying the consequences would depend on the court’s final ruling, specific orders and applicable provisions of the Electoral Act.

He described the dispute as a battle being fought on two fronts — the ballot box and the courtroom.

“Elections determine winners, while the courts determine the legal consequences” of the leadership dispute, Imumolen said.

He also reaffirmed his faction’s support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
