The opening weekend of the English Premier League concluded on Sunday with a trio of matches that produced a mix of drama and defensive solidity.

Arsenal secured a narrow victory over rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford, while Chelsea was held to a goalless draw at home. Nottingham Forest began their campaign with a convincing win.

Manchester United 0-1 Arsenal

Arsenal claimed a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Manchester United at Old Trafford. The decisive moment came in the 13th minute when Arsenal's Riccardo Calafiori capitalized on an error by United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir, heading in a corner to give the visitors the lead.

Despite the setback, United, under new manager Ruben Amorim, created several opportunities, with debutants Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo causing problems for the Arsenal defense. However, the Gunners' backline held firm, securing all three points in a tough season opener.

Nottingham Forest 3-1 Brentford

Nottingham Forest made a strong start to the season with a dominant 3-1 win over Brentford at the City Ground. The victory was powered by a brace from Chris Wood, who opened the scoring early and added a second just before halftime. Dan Ndoye also scored on his debut for Forest.

Brentford's lone goal came from a late penalty converted by Igor Thiago.

Chelsea 0-0 Crystal Palace

Chelsea and Crystal Palace played out a goalless draw at Stamford Bridge in a match that saw few clear-cut chances. Palace thought they had taken the lead early on when Eberechi Eze scored from a free-kick, but VAR disallowed the goal due to an infringement by a Palace player who was too close to the wall.

The result sees both teams share a point to start their seasons.
