The G100 Coalition says opposition leaders, including Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar, are making significant progress towards selecting a consensus presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.

The candidate is expected to challenge President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress.

The coalition says it has inaugurated legal and media committees to coordinate negotiations among opposition parties and address issues that could prevent an agreement.

The meeting in Abuja was attended by representatives of the African Democratic Congress, Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peoples Redemption Party, Social Democratic Party, Allied Peoples Movement and Peoples Democratic Party.

G100 Coalition chairman, Professor Sadiq Gombe, says discussions involving party leaders and presidential hopefuls have advanced, expressing confidence that outstanding issues could be resolved before the January 16, 2027 presidential election.

The coalition is also considering the legal and constitutional implications of the proposed alliance, including possible legal challenges and mechanisms for resolving disputes.

Meanwhile, Young Progressives Party presidential candidate Peter Agada says he is willing to work with either Obi, the NDC candidate, or Atiku, who is associated with the ADC, provided they share his vision for Nigeria.

Speaking on Arise Television, Agada says he is targeting between two million and 10 million votes, adding that his campaign has been building support through grassroots mobilisation, presentations and consultations.

Agada, who says he was formerly associated with the Obidient Movement, claims that more than 40 per cent of its members who have not moved away are supporting his political project.

He says his ambition is to build a broader coalition of Nigerians beyond party affiliations, as opposition groups continue efforts to agree on a common candidate ahead of the 2027 election.
