Court Orders INEC to Recognise NDC’s Modified Logo

The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to upload and use the modified digital logo of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, as contained in the party’s constitution.

NDC Chairman, Seriake Dickson, announced the development in a statement, saying the court, presided over by Justice J. O. Abdulmalik, granted the party’s request in a suit filed against INEC.

Dickson said the party had approved and submitted the modified logo to INEC after its first National Executive Council meeting, and that the commission initially uploaded it before later removing it and reverting to the logo with which the association was originally registered.

He said the party waited for INEC to correct the situation before resorting to legal action.

“We therefore commend the judiciary for its timely intervention and welcome the judgment directing INEC to forthwith upload and utilise our modified digital logo,” Dickson said.

He urged NDC candidates and members to immediately begin using the approved logo on campaign materials, including banners, posters and other publicity materials.

Dickson acknowledged that some candidates may have already produced campaign materials with the previous logo but said they should now transition to the logo approved in the party’s constitution.

He said both logos carry the two-finger victory sign but described the modified logo as the authentic party logo and the one more widely recognised.

The NDC chairman also urged party members not to panic over the dispute, saying the party had experienced leaders capable of handling the matter.

Dickson described the challenges surrounding the logo as part of what he called “administrative machinations” the party had faced, adding that the NDC would continue to pursue its interests through democratic means.

He said the party would issue a formal statement and begin publicity efforts to guide candidates and members on the approved logo and sensitise voters.

“Accordingly, from this moment, the party and all its candidates should use and refer to the constitutionally approved modified digital logo in all campaign and party-related materials,” Dickson said.
