Former vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Datti Baba-Ahmed, has announced his resignation from the party, citing internal issues and a shift in its direction.
Speaking on TV, Baba-Ahmed said he would formally leave the party at midnight and join the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).
He said the Labour Party no longer reflects the values it once stood for, alleging that internal decisions had made it difficult for him to remain.
Baba-Ahmed also accused the Federal Government of weakening opposition parties, saying the political environment has forced many politicians to realign.
He clarified that his decision was personal and not targeted at any individual within the party, adding that he holds no grievances against key figures.
Explaining his choice of the PRP, he described it as a party with a strong historical foundation that aligns with his political direction.
Baba-Ahmed also dismissed suggestions of seeking higher office, saying he is satisfied with his achievements and remains focused on contributing to national development.
