The internal struggle for control of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) intensified this week as the faction loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, inaugurated a National Caretaker Committee (NCC) to assume control of the party’s affairs.

The move, announced after the 104th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the Wike bloc on Sunday, December 7, 2025, comes just two days before the official expiration of the tenure for some members of the previous National Working Committee (NWC) on December 9.

The 13-member Caretaker Committee is chaired by Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed, who the Wike faction recognizes as its Acting National Chairman, and Senator Samuel Anyanwu, who serves as Secretary.

The NCC has been given a 60-day mandate to oversee the party, conduct pending congresses, and organize a national convention.

However, this development immediately sets up a direct confrontation with the mainstream PDP leadership, led by National Chairman Tanimu Turaki (SAN), who was elected at a separate National Convention held in Ibadan on November 15, 2025.

The Wike faction has consistently dismissed the Ibadan convention as illegal, citing what they claim are subsisting Federal High Court judgments that the Turaki-led group has allegedly disregarded.

During the meeting, Wike reportedly vowed that he and other founding members would not allow the party to be "killed" by individuals who violate court rulings and engage in parallel activities.
