A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, in his ongoing trial over alleged breach of national security through wiretapping.

Justice Joyce Abdulmalik approved the bail on Monday in the sum of N100 million with one surety in like sum.

The court ruled that the surety must be a Grade Level 17 federal civil servant residing in either Maitama or Asokoro in Abuja, and must provide the original Certificate of Occupancy of a landed property.

The judge also directed the surety to submit proof of salary payments for at least three months, a tax clearance certificate, an affidavit of means, a recent passport photograph, and a verification letter from the person’s department.

In addition, El-Rufai was ordered to surrender all valid international passports to the court and seek permission before travelling outside the country.

He is also required to report to the headquarters of the Department of State Services every last Friday of the month pending the conclusion of the trial.

Justice Abdulmalik warned that failure to comply with the conditions would lead to automatic revocation of the bail and ordered an accelerated hearing of the case.
