Enugu State Wins National Para Games

Enugu State has emerged the overall winner of the 3rd National Para Games held in Abuja after a strong performance across multiple events.

The team finished at the top of the medal table with 40 gold, eight silver and seven bronze medals, bringing their total medal count to 55.

Bayelsa State finished in second position with 25 gold, 30 silver and 34 bronze medals, recording the highest overall medal count of 89, while Edo State placed third with 25 gold, 14 silver and 12 bronze medals for a total of 51.

Rivers State came fourth with 21 gold, 21 silver and 17 bronze medals, while Lagos State finished fifth with 20 gold, 23 silver and 20 bronze medals.

Other top-performing states included Abia State, Plateau State, Osun State, Adamawa State and Kwara State, which all finished in the top 10 of the medal standings.

The games featured athletes competing in 15 para sports, including para athletics, para cycling, para karate, para taekwondo, para powerlifting, para badminton, para table tennis, amputee football, para volleyball, para swimming, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair tennis, para shooting, para canoeing and para soccer.

The National Para Games, which began on March 26, concluded at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, showcasing the talent, resilience and determination of para athletes from across Nigeria.

The event also highlighted the continued growth and development of para sports in the country, with more states participating and improved performances recorded across several events.
