Founder of the National Youth Alliance (NYA), Ambassador Aliyu Bin Abbas, has emerged as the presidential candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) for the 2027 general election.
Abbas was declared winner in the early hours of Saturday at the party's 2026 National Convention held in Abuja, securing the party's ticket ahead of the next presidential election.
Speaking after his emergence, Abbas described his nomination as the beginning of a new era in Nigeria's political landscape, pledging to champion national renewal, inclusive governance, economic transformation and youth empowerment.
The former political aide to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar also stressed that his presidential bid is independent and not linked to any previous political association.
He called on Nigerians across ethnic, religious and political divides to unite behind a common vision of progress, justice, prosperity and national greatness, adding that details of his policy agenda and nationwide campaign plans would be unveiled in due course.
Earlier at the convention, ADP National Chairman, Engr. Yabagi Yusuf Sani, said the party remains a credible alternative for Nigerians amid economic hardship, insecurity, unemployment and declining confidence in public institutions.
Sani urged party members to uphold internal democracy and transparency, stressing that political parties must practise democracy within their own structures.
He also called on delegates and aspirants to place the party's collective interest above personal ambitions and work towards presenting the ADP as a platform capable of addressing Nigeria's pressing challenges.
The convention concluded with the formal ratification of Abbas as the party's presidential candidate, setting the stage for the ADP's preparations ahead of the 2027 general election.
