The federal government has refuted reports of the increase in the tuition fees of federal universities.

In a statement on Wednesday, presidential spokesperson, Dele Alake, said universities announced adjustments in certain charges for services like hostel accommodation, registration, and laboratory usage, that were not tuition fees.

He added that the charges were discretionary and meant to cover specific services and facilities provided by each university.

The statement added that “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains committed to his promise of ensuring that every Nigerian, regardless of the economic situation of their parents, have access to quality tertiary education.”

Recall that the University of Lagos (UNILAG), last week, hiked its fees for new and returning undergraduate students.
