The Federal Government says President Bola Tinubu remains committed to promoting religious tolerance and unity across Nigeria, despite recent international criticism over alleged religious persecution.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said on Tuesday November 4th, that the President has been engaging both domestic and international stakeholders to ensure a clear understanding of Nigeria’s true position on religious freedom.
Idris explained that President Tinubu has also strengthened the nation’s security architecture through the appointment of new service chiefs to address insecurity and extremism driving divisive narratives.
He said the government is holding continuous dialogue with religious leaders and diplomatic partners to promote understanding and national cohesion, noting that Nigeria’s Constitution guarantees freedom of worship for all citizens.
The Minister described claims that Nigeria discriminates based on religion as “false and misleading,” stressing that extremist elements are responsible for promoting division within the country.
Idris urged Nigerians to remain united and avoid being swayed by narratives aimed at dividing the country, assuring that the Tinubu administration is working tirelessly to uphold peace, unity, and mutual respect among all citizens.
