Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has been honoured with the Infrastructure Governor of the Year award by the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON), in recognition of his administration’s urban renewal and infrastructure development efforts.

The award was presented during the second edition of the BON Awards held in Abuja, where top public officials and industry figures gathered to celebrate excellence across sectors.

According to a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the honour reflects Zamfara’s “unprecedented and transformative achievements” in infrastructure under Lawal’s leadership.

BON, the umbrella body for public and private broadcasters in Nigeria, said the recognition extends beyond media to acknowledge impactful governance and development.

The selection process, which lasted several months, was overseen by a committee chaired by Danladi Bako, former Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).

The panel also included representatives from the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria and other media veterans.

The committee cited Governor Lawal’s infrastructure drive as a key factor in his selection, highlighting projects aimed at transforming Gusau into a modern state capital.

These include urban renewal initiatives, the construction of a new international airport, upgrades to general hospitals, and the building and refurbishment of more than 800 schools across the state’s 14 local government areas.

Other prominent Nigerians honoured at the event included Governors Bassey Otu and Uba Sani, as well as the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris.

Media and industry figures such as John Momoh, Shyngle Wigwe, Abubakar Jijiwa, and Sa'a Ibrahim were also recognised.

BON, established in 1973, said the awards aim to promote excellence and uphold high standards in Nigeria’s broadcasting and public service sectors.
