The All-rights Foundation (TAF Africa) has called on the Rivers State government to enact a law that prohibits discrimination against persons with disabilities (PWDs).

TAF is also pushing for the acceleration of the implementation of the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities Prohibition Act, 2018.

The foundation’s Senior Programme Officer, George Anwayi, made the appeal on Thursday during a sensitisation workshop in Port Harcourt for 20 cluster leaders of PWDs from across the Niger Delta.

The training focused on the state’s budgetary process and principles of inclusive budgeting, equipping participants with skills in disability-inclusive budget analysis to help them effectively engage in governance.

The 2018 PWD Act, signed into law at the federal level, seeks to safeguard the rights of over 25 million Nigerians living with disabilities.

Civil society groups have repeatedly urged states to domesticate the legislation to ensure equal access to education, healthcare, employment, and public participation for PWDs.
